Off to Northumberland

We were up early today as it was moving on day. We set off and made for the A66 which would take us to the M6. We wanted to drive along Hadrian’s Wall as we didn’t have time to stop and walk it, so we left the main road and took the minor road which is as close as we could get. I could see it in the distance with people walking along it …

and then it would have been beside the road except there’s no wall left just earthworks …

There was just one place where we could see wall …

We crossed the South Tyne …

and after a short stop at Hexham for a Tesco top-up we got back on the road heading for Consett. We suddenly spotted a road sign to Derwent Reservoir so we left the main road and after a very short drive we arrived and parked for lunch with the reservoir in view …

As we made our way back to the main road I saw this sign …

As a fan of Harry Potter and about to be staying near Alnwick Castle (Hogwarts) it meant everything to me!

We wanted to find the Explorer Group HQ at Consett as we needed some replacement trim for the RV. We found the factory but unfortunately they don’t have a Parts Department so we had to leave without it.

We were now back on the road to Gateshead and the A1 around Newcastle. Heading north we were soon at Alnwick and then onto Dunstan Hill campsite. After a cuppa we took Hamish for a walk …

and in the distance we could see the castle we’d be visiting during our stay here …
