Bowness-on-Windermere

We were up and off early today as we wanted to park in Bowness-on-Windermere (Rio - Ransome) and have a wander around. It was a good thing too as the car park was rapidly filling up! We went past the cruise boats …

and found the jetty where the Swallows moored up to go shopping …

After looking at the shops and buying two big bags for later on in our holiday we returned to the RV and after studying the map decided we’d take Hamish for a walk. We passed the cemetery (no rellies to look for unfortunately!) but a lovely revolving gate for me to photograph …

It was then off-road so Hamish could run and there was a nice view down to the Lake …

We then came to a gate into Cockshott Point …

and this route took us back towards Bowness via the lake …

We saw a lovely little steam launch …

and then it was a Marina with thousands of pounds worth of yachts moored up …

We cannot quite understand why people would have such large yachts on a land-locked lake which you can only sail round and round when they are sea-going vessels! One of the cruise boats was returning …

and oh no - Mike is looking at boats for sale!!

We then crossed the park with a strange sculpture type thing in the middle …

and made our way back to the RV …

Parked up next to us was an Aston Martin!

Our plans were to drive down the Lyth Valley which was an A road but seemed to be more like a very minor B road! Not a very photogenic route but when we stopped to turn the map over I took this …

Exciting or what! Nowhere to stop for lunch so the decision was to return to camp and then take Hamish for a walk this afternoon. The campsite has a Green Lane alongside it and so we set off not really knowing what to expect. It opened out into lovely countryside and luckily all the sheep were enclosed in fields either side of us …

so Hamish could run free …

the views were great …

and at the end we met a footpath …

and Ashes Farm in the distance …

We turned around and made our way back to the campsite …

for a cuppa outside with Hamish on duty to tell us if anyone dared to approach his home …

We did have one visitor but Hamish was inside by this time …
