The Lizard

We were up and ready early today as a visit to The Lizard had been planned. We made for Kynance and parked in the National Trust car park. Neither of the boys had been there before and so we set off on foot making for the cafe at the Cove. Once again it was a perfect day with blue skies ...

The water is just a magical colour here that I never get bored with the scenery ...

We stopped on the cliff top ...

and could see down to the Cove ...

Once down there I found a handy bench and Hamish had a rest admiring the view ...

After coffee the boys went down to the rocks ...

and then it was time to make our way back up to the car. It's uphill all the way - phew - so had to stop to take in the surroundings ...

and then look back at the track ...

Next stop was Lizard Point and we were very lucky to get a parking place in the small carpark. We could see up to the Lighthouse ...

and there was a very large seal in the water just below ...

The boys had their photo taken at the most southerly point of the UK ...

and then we walked on down to the cove by the old lifeboat house ...

Jamie stopped on the way back up ...

and back at the top we all looked down to see where we'd been ...

It was ice-creams all round and a sit on the bench with a fantastic view to look at ...

While making our way home Phill mentioned he'd like to see the dishes at Goonhilly so we turned off towards St Keverne and knew that eventually we'd come to a road we'd recognise! In fact we came out very close to the dishes and so we parked at the Nature Reserve and he could get a few photos ...

From here it was back to RNAS Culdrose and the viewing enclosure where just as we arrived we spotted a Merlin helicopter taking off ...

Not great shots I'm afraid as I had to rush out of the car but you get the idea of what was happening.
