Today was the climax to the week as we were to visit Nutshole Farmhouse where Edward and Amelia lived and worked. They appeared here on the 1881 census when Edward was described as a "Farmer of 80 acres employing 1 man". He had previously been described as a Dairyman on the earlier censuses. The current owners of Nutshole Farmhouse have only been there for one year and are also fascinated by the history of the place. It is no longer part of the farm - they just own the house. They were lovely people and showed us all over their home and garden. Margaret arrived with her son Dan who had come down from London to see his Dad in hospital. Dan is Mike's 4th cousin! Here are just a selection of the photos that we took and they begin with the kitchen (the original dairy) where the brickwork was worn away by the chains of the cows who were tied up for milking ...
the door out into what would have been the yard still had the original fittings ...
the sitting room with a fantastic lintel ...
and the study which was the original kitchen ...
Outside in the garden there was a lovely pond ...
and this is the back view of the house ...
Finally the front of the farmhouse ...
When we left the Farmhouse we headed for Chaffcombe Church ...
as we still hadn't found Edward's grave and this was the nearest church to the farm. However it looked as if we'd be unlucky again as he didn't appear to be here unless it was another un-marked grave. Finally a photo of the cousins for the album ...
