Visit to Cheddar Gorge

Why did I come camping? It certainly wasn't for the warmth and comfort! Boy was I cold last night. We'd forgotten to put the car rug under the airbed and as it has silver stuff on one side this helps to keep the cold from the ground getting through to you. Big mistake! I was so cold that when I got up in the early morning for (well I don't think I need to say why!) I got back into bed with loads more clothes on! The best thing about camping is an egg and bacon breakfast which is compulsory! The smell of bacon cooking in the open air - heaven!

After breks the men got busy washing the cars ...

and then it was off to Haynes to begin one of the planned drives which would take us to Cheddar Gorge. We picked up two more 5's and with tops down enjoyed a lovely run through pretty villages arriving at the Gorge about 12 noon ...

We all agreed to meet back at the cars at 2pm and then wandered down the main street. It is really lovely with the water flowing by and little shops to browse in.

As we had Hamish with us we stopped for lunch where we could sit outside and Sharon's Mike decided he would like a banana split ...

My Mike sat and watched him hoping that any minute he'd admit defeat. He had his spoon poised ready to help finish it but no such luck - it all disappeared! It was then time to get back to the cars ...

with goats by the roadside ...

and back to Haynes. When we returned to the campsite it had started to get busy ...

We met some lovely people who had travelled from all over the UK. No cooking tonight the pub a few hundred yards up the road was like a magnet! Yummy food and good company.
