Trelissick Gardens and Smugglers Cottage

With the weather forecast predicting localised showers, we set off for Trelissick Gardens in the hope that the dogs would get a good run and Pam would be able to do some painting in the dry. After parking and getting Pam set-up in the Gardens we made our way up to the start of the Woodland Walk where we looked down on the River Fal and luckily there was no hint of rain.

The cows were all at the bottom of the field ...

and what a lovely view they enjoy ...

We then passed through a gate into the wooded area where every now and then there was a break in the trees and we could see the river ...

yachts were sailing by ...

and as we neared the end of the first half of the walk we approached the King Harry Ferry and also one of the ferry boats which ply their trade from Falmouth ...

We decided to cross the road and do the second half of the walk, so after a short climb uphill we were able to look back down to the river ...

The dogs were really having a great time - especially Ozzie who was certain that all manner of creatures were living in the undergrowth - so when we came to a dividing of the ways ...

they were very glad of a drink when we spotted a watering-hole ...

It was now up-hill all the way back to the road but luckily a bench had been provided for a short rest and to admire the view ...

After crossing the road and the field where we had started our circular route, we found ourselves back at the car near the old water tower which is now used for holiday lets ...

Pam was found still painting in the Gardens ...

and after moving the car to the grass car park we enjoyed a picnic lunch and snooze ..

When we left Trelissick we headed down to the Ferry and crossed over to the Roseland ...

where we made for Smugglers Cottage, Tolverne as the boys wanted a final cream tea before going home tomorrow.

During World War II the Cottage was requisitioned and the road and beach built as an embarkation point for the D-Day landings ...

The sky was getting darker and darker but we were very lucky because we just managed to finish our tea before the rain began and everyone made a dash for shelter or their cars. We drove home to find Portreath had been dry and sunny all day.

Trago Mills Day!

No holiday in Cornwall is complete without a trip to Trago Mills!

The boys picked us up this morning and we set off hoping that it wouldn't be too crowded but as it wasn't beach weather we weren't optimistic. As expected there were a fair few cars parked up but we had a good wander around and didn't spend too much! Here are just a few photos of what the outside of Trago is all about ...

Inside there are bargains galore and it's very easy to be tempted to spend, spend, spend!

First Swim of the Year

After the relentless rain of yesterday it was good to wake to a dry day even if it was a bit overcast. We had to go to Treliske as Mike had an appointment in Dermatology where we're hoping that they can finally sort out his on-going skin problem. We had arranged to meet the boys in Truro and after a coffee in Tesco we came on home and they went shopping. Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen was also in Truro today as they spotted him on Lemon Quay! The afternoon was completely different from earlier - the sun shone so the wetsuits were brought down from the attic and the boys braved the sea. It was freezing!

Apparently once you're numb you can't feel the cold!

The evening walk on the beach was really lovely - Ozzie went rock-pooling ...

and we all enjoyed the beautiful sunset ...

Bank Holiday Sunday

The morning was miserable and damp but it brightened up in the afternoon so we took the dogs for a walk up the mule-track. It's a great view from here looking down on Greenfield Gardens ... across to the opposite hill where the holiday complex of Gwel an Mor is ...

and down to the village square ...

The dogs had a great time ...

and once we reached the top we came back down Lighthouse Hill watching the surfers in the late afternoon as the tide was coming in ...

After dinner while the sun was still shining and when the dogs are allowed on the beach, Ozzie had his first dip of the holiday ...

and we came across this lady who had been sculptured in the sand ...

Camping Visitors

After a week of dry weather the forecast is not good for the weekend which can only mean one thing - a Bank Holiday!

Jamie, Phill and Ozzie arrived just after six this morning and mid-morning we all went up to their campsite at Cambrose to help set up camp before the rain arrived. They have a nice big frame tent which they'd bought from eBay and last year it took an hour and a half just to erect the basic frame but then they didn't have any instructions. This year it was all up including inners and curtains in two hours - not bad we reckon!

Ozzie was so good - he just sat in his cage watching us until his room had gone in and then he transferred inside ...

Greenslade Park

The playground has a new name! It is now Greenslade Park - named after Captain Gordon Greenslade who is Portreath's oldest indigenous citizen.

There was great excitement in the village as we waited for Ty to complete the filming in the park ...

We all gathered outside and watched as the camera swung around ...

and then there was an official opening (well there was a lot of clapping) and the children were allowed in to try the new equipment ...

Gordon Greenslade was there to watch it all ...

and then Ty was off into the play area to chat to the children and watch them playing ...

The camera and sound man were kept very busy following him around ...

Check out the swings before here ... and this is the view of the swings now ...
