We woke this morning to a lovely sunny day. This campsite is great as there are loads of trees …
and it’s so well kept. After breakfast we took Hamish for a stroll around the site and found the River Lemon …
which borders the top of the site. Wendy was going to Kingskerswell to look for a grave today and we decided to have a venture onto Dartmoor. We went back to Ashburton and took the road to Buckland in the Moor which was very narrow but very pretty. The view on the way was lovely …
The church has a clock-face that has letters rather than numbers and the letters say MY DEAR MOTHER !
From here we took the road to Widecombe in the Moor …
Luckily there was a car park and so we could have a wander around. There’s a huge church for such a small place …
and beside the Sexton's Cottage ...
there was this …
explained here …
Our next destination was Haytor and after climbing a 20% hill and passing Saddle Tor …
we arrived at the carpark for Haytor. There was plenty of parking and a large of group of mares and foals right next to it …
We left the RV and made our way up to the rocks …
While we were walking we could hear bagpipes being played and when we got back down we saw the chap who was playing them …
Whilst walking down my mobile rang and it was Simon! We had a lovely long chat as I descended and as we passed the bagpiper he could quite clearly hear him. It was now lunch-time so we returned to the RV, had a sandwich and then drove back to the campsite. Late on in the afternoon we had a call from Wendy and she came to find us at the site. Unfortunately she’d had no luck in her search for the grave but we had a cuppa and a chat and then it was time for her to leave. She gave Hamish a big hug …
and then we said our goodbyes. She’s back in the UK again next year with Bruce, her husband and so hopefully we’ll get to see them both then.
