The forecast for today was wet in the morning and getting better in the afternoon. What a joke! Jo and Paul are still on holiday this week and we were going to spend the day with them visiting Trago at Liskeard and then on to Charlestown. The plan being that we'd be indoors during the rainy morning and outside in the dry afternoon! Paul drove us up to Trago and we had a good mooch around buying a couple of things then we had lunch before moving on to Charlestown. The rain was still hammering down on the roof of the car and in places it was hard to see through the fog. So much for the weather improving! Jo kept on saying it would clear and so we arrived and parked up and miracle of miracles it stopped raining. We went for a wander around the harbour first passing the Kaskelot ...
over the bridge ...
and found info about the harbour and the ships which moor here ...
We wandered up to the coastguard cottages ...
where we could see the fog hanging over the headland ...
It was now time to make our way back up to the Shipwreck and Heritage Centre ...
After a look over the Scarborough Lifeboat ...
and reading about this wreck of a boat ...
we made our way inside past the chap who welcomed us ...
and the tall ones amongst us having to be extra careful ...
through a tunnel with rail tracks ...
and outside to where the ships would have been loaded with clay ...
Back inside again and we made our way up to watch a video about the harbour before entering the main display area. There was so much to see that I've just chosen a selection of photos ...
It was a brilliant place to visit and well worth the money. We were hoping to find a little coffee shop but weren't lucky so decided to stop at Trewithen Gardens on our way home. As we left Charlestown it began to rain and it carried on for ages. Finally in the evening when we were back home the sun came out. Better late than never!
