Pam had very kindly given us a voucher for free entry into the Lost Gardens of Heligan and I was determined to get there as it was on my ‘to do’ list. Everyone I’ve spoken to about Heligan says it is worth seeing and so with a favourable weather forecast for today we set off with a picnic lunch. Hamish had to stay at home as dogs are only allowed during the winter months.
As we entered the Gardens we received a map which proved very useful and after studying it for a few minutes we decided to do the Northern Gardens first.
When we arrived at Flora’s Green we found a collection of marquees as the Cornwall Wildlife Trust were celebrating 50 years.
We then made our way over to the Woodland Walk …
This was the view we had while we sat on a bench and ate our lunch …
We now approached the Jungle Boardwalk …
passing Fern Gulley which will be opened on the 4th June in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee …
We continued on the circular walk …
A very handy bench for a sit-down!
Passing a mass of bluebells we reached the charcoal sculpture …
then it was on to the lakes in the Lost Valley where we went in the hide to look at the top lake. There was no evidence of wildlife which was very surprising – not even a mallard on the water …
After passing the charcoal kiln we had to climb back out of the valley – phew that was hard work!
We’d made our way to the Steward’s House where this lovely little thrush was being very brave while his mum was searching for food …
We’d arrived at Hide Park Corner with the poultry orchard and dovecote …
We had a look at the Northern Summerhouse and the view to the sea …
and then decided we’d walked far enough and really should be getting home to Hamish. We made the decision not to look at Heligan Wild today but would leave it for the next time we visit.

I love Heligan, I have only be there late summer so it was lovely seeing your photos in a different season.
