Sand Clearance from the Harbour

For three days now we’ve had a digger in the harbour clearing away tons of sand.  As soon as the tide receded the digger was in there and then yesterday and today we had two diggers in action.  Finally this afternoon they’d finished and boat owners were soon here sorting out their moorings ready for the season.  The crane is booked for the weekend of 7th/8th April and we’ll have boats outside again – can’t wait!

Portreath Through a New Lens

I’m now the owner of an Olympus VR-310 camera (as recommended by Jo!) and as it was a beautiful day I took Hamish for a walk and went to try it out. 

The tide was out and there were only a few people about – Hamish loved it!

On the way home Hamish spotted one of his favourite animals – a cat!

Meet Amelia …

We went to Tesco for the weekly shop and just inside the door was a tub filled with teddies which were reduced.  They were Mother’s Day presents down from £7 to £1.75 and I may be a sixty-something grandmother but I’m still a sucker for soft toys!!

Hence Amelia is now a  member of the family and she lives on the bed alongside Stewart …

Mothering Sunday

My boys have done me proud this year as yesterday afternoon I received a beautiful bouquet of flowers and this morning I opened their cards that had arrived during the week.

We then walked around to Pam’s with her card and present – some of her favourite chocolates.  She wanted to take her buggy for a test run as she’s not used it for a fair while due to the operation on her knee.  She took it for a spin round Greenfield Gardens and then I captured a shot of mother and son on Mother’s Day …

The Pond Boys Come for ‘Walkies’

Sage, one of our fellow bloggers from Wise Herb’s Random Jottings lives nearby and Jo and I got in touch and arranged to meet her in Portreath with all our dogs.  We met outside the Waterfront Inn and Jo requested that we go to Gwel an Mor as she wanted to see the reindeer.  The weather was lovely and when we arrived we found that the reindeer were out in a far field – too far for me to photograph them.  However there were some goats close by which I’d not seen before …

We  wandered on up the hill as we’d seen some new buildings which were visible from Portreath and we were curious to know what was happening!  We turned into a new development of ‘lodges’ which are being sold as holiday homes.  All very nice and fab views.

We then retraced our steps back down into Portreath and took the boys to the beach for a run.  Hamish never likes putting his feet in water but he got carried away and began chasing the pond boys – great fun!

Jubilee Babies …

… but with a gap of 35 years!

Jamie was born in 1977 which made him a Silver Jubilee baby and little Grace Louise was born last month in the Diamond Jubilee year. Grace is Phill’s sister’s baby – a sister for Abigail.

Open Day at Homefield, Portreath

We lived very close to this new development when it was just a field, kept an eye on the objections to the planning and have since watched the progress of the building.  So today it was really interesting to get a close look at the finished properties when they held an Open Day. 

We left Hamish with his Grandma and joined Jo and Paul who’d also come down for a look around.  We began with the flats which were surprisingly spacious.  A big sitting room and a lovely kitchen with electric power points that disappear into the work surface – love them!

There was also a house open to view and this was a bit disappointing.  Whereas in the flat the sitting room was at the front which overlooked all the gardens and would be sunny all day, the house had a rear sitting room which when we turned off the light was actually quite dark.  Granted it had French doors which opened onto decking but again there’d be no sun out there and no garden as such. Another point was that all the bedrooms were overlooked by the houses behind in Sunnyvale Road.  They’ve used eco-friendly radiators which looked very smart but it will be a job and a half  to keep them dust free!

The main problem with the site is that each unit only has one allocated parking place and most families have at least two cars these days.  When I asked about this we were told it was down to planning rules and second cars would have to be parked on side roads outside the gated community.  That’s not going to be very popular with the locals!!
