Devizes and Trowbridge

We were spending a day on this site before moving on and so the map came out and we decided to head towards Devizes stopping at the Caen Hill Locks on the way. We parked up, walked over to the canal and made for the cafĂ© …

After a coffee we had a look around the area …

The 29 locks have a rise of 237 feet in 2 miles (72 m in 3.2 km) or a 1 in 44 gradient.

We then crossed back over the canal to the RV and drove into Devizes, parking at the Wharf …

We wanted to walk along the towpath on a bit we’d never seen before. We were passed by Black Bess …

and we saw some lovely property …

We went under bridges …

and then decided to turn back. Hamish enjoyed being off the lead …

There was a lot of work on one of the bridges …

When we got back to the wharf we saw Black Bess just leaving after topping up with water …

and then I spotted this lovely model outside the Canal Shop and Museum …

While we ate our lunch it became quite busy on the water …

After lunch we drove over to Trowbridge and managed to find the cemetery where I was hoping to find a Moon relative of Mike’s. We weren’t lucky unfortunately but it was a lovely peaceful place …

When we got back to the campsite Mike tried out his new collapsible ladder and cleaned the front of the RV …

While Hamish did what he does best - slept!!
