Water, Water Everywhere!

It's quite a while since we've managed to do an MX-5 run as the bathroom has taken precedence and so we were really looking forward to today. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side first thing and the thought of spending a whole day in a small car with Hamish and with the rain hammering down outside did not fill me with enthusiasm. We decided to chance it though and hope that the sun would break through and we could always come home if we wanted to. So loaded up with a picnic lunch and wet weather gear for us all we set off for the car park at Homebase, Truro.

Hamish was in his usual place on the back shelf - that's one bonus of having the top up as I don't have him climbing all over me ...

Ten cars turned up for the run which had a theme today of water.

We were going to be driving through it, over it and alongside it! Upon leaving the car park we made our way around the back of Treliske Hospital and found ourselves driving through a couple of fords ...

We then joined the main road - I had completely lost my bearings by this point - and took the Falmouth road for a short time before diving off again onto lanes ...

We were heading for Cowlands where there was a beautiful thatched cottage for sale for a mere £1.5m ...

and the river ...

It was then Penpol and past the creek ...

before driving along Quay Road ...

We then crossed over towards Bissoe, Cusgarne and Trehaddle ...

On to Gwennap ...

After passing through Gwennap we crossed a main road again and made for Stithians ...

and the lake ...

Hamish was enjoying the wind in his face ...

Across country and in no time at all we were in Helston waiting at the traffic lights by the Museum ...

before dropping down to the roundabout ...

and parking up at the Boating Lake for a coffee ...

Suitably refreshed and with a few brave souls lowering their tops, we set off towards Porthleven and then took the road to Loe Bar and the sea ...

It was very rough ...

The road along the harbour is closed at the moment so after negotiating the tiny back roads we drove down to the harbour ...

and carried on out to the main Penzance road. Marazion was our next diversion and then back to the A30 into Penzance and Newlyn ...

The next road was a bit hairy as we were taken through Mousehole ...

The harbour was looking lovely and the sun was shining ...

It was a case of fingers crossed in the narrow streets ...

Hamish was a little fed up by now and decided to have a nap ...

Through St Buryan ...

and on to St Just ...

Lunch was to be in the Cot Valley.

This was somewhere we'd never visited before and it's beautiful. We parked up and walked down to see the beach ...

It is quite a special place ...

After lunch there was a raffle which was great fun in the wind! The bag with all the tickets in it decided to blow away and when Sharon grabbed it a few tickets flew off. Her husband, Mike, went after them but a couple went off down the river ...

We never have any luck with the raffles so Sharon asked me to pick a ticket and yes, you've guessed it, I picked my own!! The prize was a beany hat for Mike ...

Hamish enjoyed the break ...

As the weather had improved so much all tops came down and leaving Cot Valley behind ...

we went back to Penzance and then took the Redruth road to Hayle. Big yawn from Hamish ...

The day was to end at Trevaskis Farm for a cream tea. Somewhere along the last bit of road we managed to get a puncture so we said our goodbyes and went to the garage for some air ...

Luckily the wheel was okay to get us home and it would be fixed the next day.

Fantastic photos and looks like a great drive - I shall have to ask them for a copy of the route so we can do it another time x
