The Roseland and Caerhays Castle

We left Portreath this morning in a blanket of cold, damp fog and drove to the Probus by-pass where we were due to meet fellow MX-5 Club members for a drive on the Roseland Peninsula. What a fantastic turnout! Twenty two cars arrived and virtually filled the lay-by ...

The sun broke through and we set off in convoy along lovely country lanes ...

and causing havoc as we negotiated tiny villages ...

until we arrived at Portholland where we stopped for a coffee.

We then moved on to the main event of the day which was a visit to the beautiful gardens of Caerhays Castle.

We parked up right outside and found a nice spot to have our picnic lunch.

Having listened to local radio before we left home I knew the day was due to be about 74F and so had taken a pair of shorts with me - what a good move! A quick change and then we had a stroll around. These are just some of the amazing colours of flowers that we saw ...

We said goodbye to three cars here and then the rest of us drove on to

St Mawes, passing the Castle ...
and where once again a large convoy of 5's caused a few heads to turn as we drove through the village ...

The final part of the drive took us back towards Probus for tea at Trewithen Gardens. As we drove back down the valley towards Portreath we could see the fog and it was getting very cold -apparently it had been foggy most of the day. We collected Hamish from his Grandma and after he'd had his tea we took him over to the Portreath Arms where we had our evening meal. Well who wants to cook after a fantastic day out!
