White Dog in the Woods

The rain had stopped, the sun was shining and Hamish was giving us that pleading look which we know means 'When are we going for a decent walk?' So with walking shoes on and an umbrella just in case of an unexpected shower, we left home and made our way to Illogan Woods ...

I knew it was going to be wet but before we'd even reached the woods we met a flooded path ...

and then Hamish looked at where we required him to go and obviously thought that if he wanted his walk then he'd better make his way through the water ...

The water was flooding down ...

but we carried on up the track ...

looking at the stream beside us ...

We crossed the little bridge ...

and walked on with the stream now on our left ...

Hamish was having a lovely run and there were plenty of smells for him ...

We reached the dividing point of the track and decided to carry straight on ...

To our left there was an overflow pipe with water gushing forth ...

and just behind it was a very wet field ...

We reached the watercress pond and then turned around as the sky was getting darker ...

Hamish climbed up the bank for more smells on the way back ...

and in no time at all we were back down on the lower stretch ...

Hamish wasn't too keen to go through the water on the path again ...

but he suddenly came charging through ...

One white and black dog who has really enjoyed himself ...

Windy Saturday

There was thankfully no damage near us this morning after the gale force winds which were forecast for overnight and with a high tide mid-afternoon I took Hamish for a stroll to the beach to get a few shots ...

We then made our way back to the harbour, stopping by the Waterfront ...

and then walked up Lighthouse Hill so I could look out to Gull Rock ...

Some people stand in the most dangerous of places to get their photos considering it was still blowing a hooley ...

I went as far as the hairpin bend ...

and then came back down and we made our way home ...

Westie Walk

Listening to Pirate FM this week we heard that there was a Westie Walk on Perranporth beach today and so we set off in the hopes that the promised rain would hold off just long enough for us to do the walk. We parked in the beach car park and it seemed to be teeming with Westies of all shapes and sizes.

Bob McCready from the radio station was there with his wife and two Westies - Phoebe and Toby ...
and after a good natter with the other owners ...

and a group photo we all made for the beach and the dogs were let off to run ...

It was a lovely morning albeit a bit breezy but at least the rain wasn't in evidence and the dogs had a great time. There were some kite flyers on the beach and some of the dogs went chasing after them ...

There was also a lovely horse being walked along the waters's edge ...

We noticed a very dark sky approaching so decided to turn around and return to the car leaving the others still walking on ...

We just got back to the car in time!

The Reformer - Part One

Mel had given me two sessions on the Reformer as a birthday present and so at noon today I walked over to her home to see what I'd let myself in for! All ready for me in her sitting room was this contraption which looked as if it should be in a torture chamber and I had to lie down on it! Mel explained very carefully what I had to do for each of the exercises which began quite gently and gradually got tougher. As you push on the bar at the end, the part you're laying on slides along and you can feel your body working. The worst part for me was the arm exercises. My arms were as weak as ****! Must work on them at home and try and get some strength into them - they were pathetic! Great fun though and I'm looking forward to my second session next week.

My pathetic arms ...

More Sad News

Today we received another phone call telling us that an old friend from the MX-5 Owners Club had passed away. Barbara and Graham hadn't been active members for a few years now as they also had a Cornish Crabber which they loved to sail during the summer when the weather permitted. Before the Crabber they'd owned a Shrimper and they very kindly took us out for the day. We sailed it from Mylor to St Mawes and then they needed to get it back to its mooring in the Helford. It was a trip I will never forget. It was blowing a hooley as we crossed the bay and we were all hanging on with the boat on autopilot so Graham could hang on too. I have never been so pleased to see the Helford river as I was that day. Now I know why I like the Norfolk Broads where there is land either side of you and you're never more than a few minutes away from it! They hadn't been on a drive for a long time but just before our long holiday we had a call from them as they were in our area. They came to see us and Graham couldn't wait to look at Crocus. Unfortunately the next time we'll see Barbara will be at his funeral next week.

RIP Graham we'll miss you x

Super Birthday

The day began with no signal on my mobile and so no Happy Birthday texts came winging their way to Cornwall. How pleased I was that I was on Facebook and could tell the kids that I wasn't ignoring their messages - they just weren't getting through! After opening my cards and my lovely present from Mike - a ring ...

we took Hamish for his morning stroll to see his Grandma and then went over to Matalan - well it's compulsory to shop for something new on your birthday! When we got home there was a card through the door from a florist telling me that a bouquet had been left with a neighbour. Unfortunately she was out when I popped round but she came to find me in the afternoon and I had these lovely flowers from the boys ...

We'd booked a table at The Crab Picker in Portreath for a meal in the evening and were joined by Jo, Paul, Mel and Ricky. I was given some lovely silver earrings from Jo and Paul and I'm looking forward to two sessions on a Pilates Reformer which was my gift from Mel and Ricky. The food was delicious, the company was great and we had a really super time. Thanks guys for ending my birthday on a high!
